Seriously, Mindhunters? WTF. How did you get such a good cast when you are such a bad, bad movie? Okay, for a suspense-thriller, not bad. For a movie purporting to be about FBI profilers? GODAWFUL.

However, it led to some amusing dialogue...

[livejournal.com profile] innerslytherin: Oh dude, if you could have just seen me.  I am at this point where Character A is leaning over dead body, and I'm thinking "OMG, A, WATCH YOUR BACK!"  And then I lift my glass to take a drink.  Just as Character B comes up behind A and grabs her.  What do I do?  Obviously, I jerk in surprise, spilling rum & Coke all down my front.  BECAUSE HE DID EXACTLY WHAT I WAS EXPECTING!!?!?!?? WTF, Steph.  WTF.
[livejournal.com profile] severity_softly: *rolls eyes*  You're too cute.
[livejournal.com profile] innerslytherin: :P  Cute.  Also, wet.

[livejournal.com profile] severity_softly: Rowr!

Also, in other news, the talented [livejournal.com profile] dragonladyk has made a Reid/Rossi fanvid that kicks ass! Seriously, definitely watch that instead of Mindhunters. Your time will be much better spent.

Went to see Prince Caspian today finally. What's funny is this has never been my favourite of the Narnia books, but man, did I love this movie! The acting was brilliant, the scenery was beautiful... They did some inventing, but I was pleased with it, because it was true to the spirit of the book, the underlying theme of which is how when we do things our way, we screw up bigtime, but when we do things God's way, they go right.

I was, however, distracted from the heavenly themes of the movie by Little Mr No-Longer-Jailbait, Skandar Keynes. Okay, I've always been an Edmund fangirl, but dude.

Wherein I spam you with pictures of a 16-year-old I should not find quite as hot as I do. )

*cough* Okay, enough. But seriously, someone find me a 30-year-old equivalent to King Edmund the Just, mmkay?

For those of you who are William Moseley fans, at least he's in one of these pictures. *G*

Dear movie theatre owners in Indiana,

I have no interest in a movie about killing God. And sadly, its antithesis Prince Caspian doesn't come out until May, so no fantasy blockbuster for me this Christmas. I do not care about Mr. Magorian, and the only good bee is one that is not near me. I am too much of a wimp for Steven King movies, and stupid movies about Santa's brother don't catch my fancy. I would, however, particularly like to see Starting Out in the Evening, so if you would please to be showing that now, even if I must dress up and go to the arts cinema at Keystone for it, I would be happy. And drink a cocktail while watching it.

Yours truly,
Someone who spends very little money on your industry and should therefore probably be ignored

In other news, if I did have the energy to go to a movie theatre, I would only be sniffling and coughing my way through the movie, so perhaps I don't deserve it, anyway.

I want a fireside and blanket and Remus to snuggle.

Dear Flist,

This is the most boring Thursday I've had in a while. Most of the Accounting department is in training this week. I've done most of the work I have to do. I could make phone calls, but I utterly loathe making phone calls. I'm putting this off.

Things I have done instead of making phone calls:

  • Worked on Science of Love and sent it to [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly
  • Discovered that one of my Culpae Patria summaries has been reposted on some sort of blog feed or something.
  • Realised I really need to do another summary.
  • Read [livejournal.com profile] cedarlibrarian's Supernatural ficlet she wrote for me, which inspired me to
  • Listen to my SPN playlist on my iPod, lip-synching to Kansas in my cubicle
  • Chatted with Israel for a while, because he is a cutie and stops by my cubicle whenever he's in the office
  • Reread a CP scene with Remus' parents and realised we need to write more with John and Celeste, because they're fun. Well, honestly, Severus' reactions to them are funny.
  • Ate peanut M&Ms.
  • Looked in every way I know how to see if the St. Vincent Health invoice has been paid for respiratory tests. (Not mine, for employees here.)

Things I have not done include said phone calls, working on my Snupin Santa fic, or further revision on the no-longer-for-Pervy-Werewolf fic that I want to post by Halloween.

It's very cold in my cubicle. For that matter it's cold everywhere, whether inside or outside. I am not sure I'm looking forward to the Purdue/Northwestern game on Saturday. My house was also freezing when I got up this morning. I got up 15 minutes late because I really really really really didn't want to get out from under the covers.

Also, I don't remember having "Fight the Good Fight" by Triumph on this playlist, but yey, it's a good song. I really really want to watch "Devil's Trap", but I've been trying to get Dad to watch SPN with me, and we've made it halfway through the second DVD, which I think means he's hooked. I may try to get him to sit and watch it with me tonight, since I can't watch the new episode until tomorrow or probably Saturday, with the way CWTV.com has been posting new episodes later than they did last year. *sigh*

Anyway. I've made it to 11. The mail probably won't show up for another hour, and even then I may not have too much to do. Blah blah blah.

Oh! Watched the HBO Elizabeth last night, the one with Helen Mirren as Bess and Jeremy Irons (rowr) as Leicester and Hugh Dancy as Essex. I must say, I liked it a great deal more than the Cate Blanchett version, because it told the story in a much more accurate way, and the acting was superb. (Cate's acting was also very good, but the directing & editing of that movie was frustrating to me.) Anyway, as always, Jeremy was a delight to watch, and I enjoyed them. Of course, now I have to see if my best friend, who has developed a passionate interest in the royalty of England since her trip there, wants to borrow the DVDs. Maybe I should just send them back and make her rent them herself. *G* I'm ready to move on to other movies in my queue.

Ooh, yay, "Stranglehold!" I always have to play this song's intro about three times, making gun gestures to match the SPN "Story so far" summary. *grin* Obsessive geek? Me?

Naaaaaah.

[livejournal.com profile] pay_no_more is taking a headcount of people who don't intent to spend any more money at LJ. There are separate posts for free users, paid users, and permanent users. Go take a look.

I'm furious at my cell phone. I did a hard reset, losing all data stored on the phone (I had backed it up, but I still had to reprogram all that) and now, instead of being able to see my CAB files as I had hoped, I don't even fucking have Tetris on there, which I purchased from Cingular several months ago. Furious.

Went to see Stardust with Mom & Dad yesterday. Liked it a lot. Dad did, too. I had a feeling he would. He just laughed and laughed in many spots. He also kept remarking afterwards how pretty Claire Danes is. *snerk* Mom had a migraine and was generally snippy and hard to be around, though she did say "That was cute." Of course there are many words I would apply to the movie, like enchanting, charming, suspenseful, exciting, romantic...cute is not one of them. Neil Gaiman has a finely developed sense of the macabre, and while it isn't in play nearly as much in Stardust as it is in Neverwhere or the Endless books, it is still present. Septimus was gorgeous, though I kept thinking he was Richard Armitage and having to remind myself he wasn't. Robert Deniro FTW.

I have made almost $100 on my eBay auctions this week! OMG w00t! All four of my original items sold, and now I just have a TI-83 graphing calculator up for auction.

Did a bit of homework to discover that I have spent $430.75 at LJ over the past four years. Their data only goes back to April of 2003, so there is at least seven months of paid time added on to that total. Too bad for them that money will now be going to JournalFen, InsaneJournal, and whatever fandom site develops. I've let the paid time expire for [livejournal.com profile] carfiniel, [livejournal.com profile] remus_sotf, and [livejournal.com profile] 1978moony. I won't be sending virtual gifts to people anymore, sorry. I pretty much gave that up back in May, honestly.

Frodo the laptop has a new palmrest and a new LCD screen. As soon as the tech guy gets the part, he's going to have a new motherboard, too. Huzzah for extended warranties that include housecalls! I know a lot of people have had problems with Dell, but I'm very happy with the service and quality of product I've got from them.

Ooh.  A post [livejournal.com profile] bronze_ribbons made got me thinking about the horrible travesty that is the DIR movie.  And then I realized, the reason canon is being raped so badly?

It's Will.  He has to edit the truth of himself out of any record of his life.  You see?  Old Ones try never to let their presence anywhere be recorded!  So he cannot let a movie about himself be made.

Mwahahaha.  Clever Will.

Someone here is complaining about wandless magic in PS, as well as the timing of Voldemort's rise to power.  First of all, wandless magic is well-established in the world of HP.  Dumbledore does it all the time, and it stands to reason that Voldemort can, as well.  That means that, by extension, possessed!Quirrell should also be able to perform wandless magic.  Regarding the timeline of Voldemort's rise to power, it makes sense to me that he wouldn't be able to start the war immediately upon leaving school.  I mean, no matter how sneaky and powerful he was, I can't see him having enough resources to take over the world at 18.

Now there is a legitimate question posed there, wondering why Quirrell seems to have been in the Defence position for several years.  I always figured that the curse on the position could be interpreted to be consecutive years.  For instance, Quirrell works a year, takes a year off to go to Transylvania and get possessed, then comes back for a year.  Not to mention that if Voldemort cursed the position and wanted to use Quirrell, I assume Voldemort would be able to manipulate the curse however he wanted.

More troubling to me is the fact that Dumbledore let Quirrell run around the castle and have access to Harry for an entire year without seeming to realize it.  I appreciate that Snape was suspicious of Quirrell--but did he realize it was the Dark Lord he was defying?  I wonder if he got flashes of burning where his Dark Mark is, the way Harry got flashes of pain from his scar.

Now, a rant.

Watched The Departed yesterday.  I really enjoyed it, though the ending was quite a surprise to me.  It's sort of like the book I read recently, Being Americana.  (Though I felt like the book's plot wandered all over, which was not the case with The Departed.)  That book also had an ending that was quite a slap in the face to me.  The difference is that with the movie, it made sense--for one thing, Irish stories never have happy endings.  But anyway, I was annoyed by the book, where I wasn't annoyed by the movie.
