SERIOUSLY?

Happy fucking birthday to me.

Wow, the head of HR at my company has reached new lows in classiness. At 9 am ON MY BIRTHDAY he called me to his office and told me they're downgrading my job to part-time. Why? Well, because I've missed so much time this year, and yet the quality of my work hasn't suffered at all. In other words, "You're so efficient, we're demoting you. Congratulations, you're losing your benefits."

And he seriously expects me to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday? Hell fucking no. That's a non-negotiable point. I'll be working three consecutive days if they want me to stay. And that's only IF the Department of Labor tells me that it actually is legal for them to make a full-time benefitted position part-time non-benefitted while the incumbent is on FMLA. I suspect it's a legal gray area, since it might not technically be considered a demotion or punishment, even though in practice, it is.

I'd put the job search on hold while my boss' mother was dying, too. She was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer this summer and only died two weeks ago, and I thought it would be shitty of me to leave while C was dealing with that. Didn't stop C from being in talks with HR and the VP of Finance about all this though, obviously. Bitch.

So now I have to try to figure out what I'm good at and what I really want to do, and I have to do it in a hurry, because I only have benefits through the end of October, and the neurologist still hasn't gotten my migraine meds cocktail right, and I really wanted to ask my primary care physician for a new antidepressant. Though being away from SFS might take some of the pressure off the Zoloft, I guess. :P

I want a job where I can telecommute at least part of the time, wear jeans to work every day, do a lot of research, not talk on the phone much, and travel. With benefits. Anyone know of a job like that? :P

My "manager" threw me under the bus at the fucking collections meeting today. Big surprise. I was left looking like an asshole, and that pisses me off majorly. I'll be applying for new jobs the minute I get back from vacation.

The HR director just sent out an email reminding everyone of the break policy here and that we are only to take two 10-minute breaks per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. He further reminded us that smoking is only to be done in the smoking area during one of said breaks or the employee's lunch hour.

*makes happy flaily fists*

Take THAT, S----!

So work is totally completely boring me today. It doesn't help that it's 78 and storming outside and 78 and humid inside. Tomorrow I'm coming to work in a pair of dressy knee-length shorts, and if they send me home, I'll say, "Good. At least I have AIR CONDITIONING there." I totally support the idea of keeping the AC turned warmer to save energy and help the environment, but I'm talking 72 or so, NOT 78. Part of me
is afraid they're dragging their feet on replacing the unit that's broken, too. We have fans running all over the place. Wouldn't surprise me if we end up blowing a fuse.

Who wants to write me little fluffy Hotch/Rossi ficlets? Because I'm pretty sure that would help. *G*

I left my BlackBerry at home today, and it has been annoying me all day. I feel disconnected when I don't have it.

In other news, I am exhausted and have a sinus headache today, and Dad is getting a cold. The office is just a tad bit too warm and I've been kicking my sandals off whenever I'm in my cube. If only my tank top had wider traps, I could take off the thin cotton shirt I'm wearing over it. But my bra straps would show and that would just be tacky. I wore my hair down today and got complimented, but it's about to drive me nuts, so I think it's going to be pulled back very shortly. Drinking ice
water too. I don't mind it not being cold in here, because it's nice to be able to wear capris and short sleeves to work, without wondering how badly hypothermia will set in before quitting time. But this is just a bit too much. All the other women on this row except me are menopausal, and you know if I'm hot, they're stifling.

Two and a half more hours. I hope I can make it...

The CTS is acting up this week really badly, but only while at work. That's not surprising, since I have a full ergo setup at home. Trackball and ergo keyboard with a fully-adjustable keyboard tray. Here at work I have a keyboard tray, but that's all. The mouse I use is up on the desk, and I have to sit at a funny angle in my cubicle due to the way they arrange the computers.

Yesterday it got so bad I went to CVS on my lunch hour and bought a brace for the right wrist. I have custom-fitted ones at home, but I figure it doesn't hurt to have one to keep here at work. Well, today I'm wearing the brace on my right wrist and it's helped, but now my left wrist is bothering me like crazy. The Advil doesn't seem to be helping.

In completely unrelated news, I'm doing research on brain tumors for something I'm writing. I don't suppose anyone out there has medical or personal knowledge they want to share? Mostly I'm trying to find out how to describe how the patient feels after surgery and during recovery.

I think it needs to be Friday instead of Thursday. Anyone else with me on this?

We got a new printer a couple of weeks ago, and sometimes it randomly makes a noise that sounds an awful lot like an EMF detector. This amuses me mightily.

There's a new sign taped up in the bathroom about the importance of washing your hands and how to do it properly. I'm just wondering if it's because we have someone here who was just hospitalized with MRSA, or if it's because of the swine flu.

Whew. The water is back on. Thank goodness. Now if I can just survive the next 33 minutes until work is out, all will be well.

My allergies are giving me hell today. Stupid pollen count.

I was thinking I should do some investigating about Larry Eyler and maybe write a book about him...and then I found out someone already has. Drat.

The IT manager just stopped by and said I should get my new desktop today or tomorrow.

Six months after they started rolling them out.

The day before my vacation.

*cue cynical laughter here*
