I have 97 stories, adding up to 439,838 words. All together, they've received 170,762 hits.

Top Five by Hits:

1. I Never, Criminal Minds, Morgan/Reid, 2009, 2,627 words, 17,196 hits.
2. Good Reason to be Late, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 526 words, 6,262 hits.
3. An Excuse to Get Hurt, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 4,360 words, 5,321 hits. (A rare dark-ish fic from me.)
4. Life is Good, Criminal Minds, 2009, Reid/Rossi, 1,213 words, 4,827 hits.
5. Not So Alone, Criminal Minds, 2009, Hotch/Reid and Rossi/Prentiss, 2,263 words, 3,925 hits. Part one of a season-long series of episode coda fics.

The conclusion I draw from this: People will always love Morgan/Reid best. Also, I was a crazy multi-shipper for Criminal Minds.

Top Five by Kudos:

1. I Never, Criminal Minds, Morgan/Reid, 2009, 2,627 words, 1,424 kudos.
2. Good Reason to be Late, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 526 words, 280 kudos.
3. An Excuse to Get Hurt, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 4,360 words, 190 kudos.
4. Role Reversal, Criminal Minds, 2010, Hotch/Reid, 1,090 words, 185 kudos.
5. Life is Good, Criminal Minds, 2009, Reid/Rossi, 1,213 words, 4,827 hits.

The conclusion I draw from this: Spencer Reid really is the Criminal Minds fandom's little black dress. He looks good on everyone.

Top Five by Bookmarks:

1. I Never, Criminal Minds, Morgan/Reid, 2009, 2,627 words, 258 bookmarks.
2. Life is Good, Criminal Minds, 2009, Reid/Rossi, 1,213 words, 42 bookmarks.
3. Good Reason to be Late, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 526 words, 35 bookmarks.
4. Alpha Male Syndrome, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Rossi, 22,775 words, 23 bookmarks.
5. An Excuse to Get Hurt, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 4,360 words, 33 bookmarks.

The conclusion I draw from this: My Morgan/Rossi Big Bang fic made a surprising appearance here. I guess that means there are so few Morgan/Rossi fics that people like coming back to reread this one? :D

I just have to say, where the heck are all the Harry Potter fans on AO3? My most popular HP fic is
A Life of Obscurity, which was a 21,096-word Snupin Santa fic. It has 1,499 hits, 70 kudos, 5 comment threads, and 24 bookmarks.

I wonder if this is a result of the ways fandom has changed over the years. My HP fandom involvement was almost entirely on FictionAlley and LiveJournal, and of course, starting in 2007 LJ started going downhill, and I started porting fic over to AO3. I...honestly don't remember what happened with FictionAlley, though it seems like there was some drama that led to people moving to AO3?

My poor little The 100 fanfics get very little attention--probably because I'm such a fringe-shipper. Not many people looking for Bellamy/Jackson or Bellamy/Monty slash out there, I guess. :D

I think it's pretty obvious I've been on a deep fandom hiatus this summer. It hasn't really been intentional. This summer seems to have been full of stuff, from Merlin getting sick and having to be put to sleep forward. Merlin, then vacation, then a migraine that wouldn't quit, then our long streak of days over 90 and without rain (we broke the 1936 record for Indiana), then... Of course, I know life is always that way. We have to decide what's most important to us and what's less important. And this summer, I've realized that I actually enjoy not spending every waking moment at the computer. I miss the friends I used to spend a huge amount of time with online, but I've also gained richness from spending time with family and kittens and face-to-face friends. And I've enjoyed spending time working on my original fiction, which is something that has both been enhanced by and been detracted from by my fandom involvements. Writing fanfic has made me a better writer. Working with beta-readers online has been better for me than four years in a Creative Writing program at university. But at the same time, I've written hundreds of thousands of words of fan fiction, and probably more of that, at this point, than my recent original fiction.

So this week I've really been thinking it over, and I have finally just come to a decision. As of right now, I'm pretty much done with my active participation in fandom.

This doesn't mean I want any of my friendships within fandoms to go away. I love all of you, and I want to keep you. But it does mean I'm not going to take on any new fanfic obligations. I'm going to be resigning from most of the stuff I've done. I'd still like to make sure the CM Exchange happens this year, and I should probably be talking to last year's people and trying to recruit someone who can continue in my place for next year's exchange. I will also be filling some obligations that I have been regrettably slow in filling (yes, charity auction winners, I'm looking at all of you). I'll still read and appreciate other people's fanfic on a smaller scale. But I don't plan at this time to create any more of my own.

The thing is, I'm turning 35 soon, and ten years ago I had a minor birthday meltdown because I hadn't sold any of my fiction. And now here it is a decade later and I STILL haven't sold any of my fiction. And you know what? It's been my own fault. I haven't tried hard enough. I haven't polished enough. I haven't submitted enough. And I'm tired of that. I'm tired of the feelings of self-doubt and self-criticism that go along with not having done what I always meant to do. I'm tired of not doing what I know in my heart I'm supposed to be doing.

So my fiction has to be made into a serious priority at this point. And I've been doing a much better job of that this summer, thanks in large part to having [livejournal.com profile] slightlyjillian as a writing/revising buddy. But I need to take ownership of my writing career (or lack thereof) and decide to make it what I want it to be.

This probably won't surprise anyone. I've been largely absent all summer, and while I've been gratified to hear from people reading older fic, I obviously haven't been contributing anything for months.

So anyway, I'm not saying goodbye to you all. After all, I left the Harry Potter fandom years ago and I still have lots of HP people around. But if anyone was just sticking around for the fanfic, I won't take defriendings personally.

I love you all.

I live in Indiana.  Three years isn't enough time to get used to DST after a lifetime without it.  I'm looking for jobs in Arizona so I can laugh at everyone on DST again. :P

There is a distressing lack of Rossi/Prentiss (or Morgan/Prentiss) in the [livejournal.com profile] bau_inbox this week.  Come on, I need some good het to read!  Yes, okay, fine, I've lost all slasher cred. *sigh*

This year Lent has been a huge learning experience for me already and it's only just started.  I imagine the euphoria is going to drop off soon.

I need to put some laundry away before I go to bed.  Oh, and pick out my clothes for tomorrow.  Where did this weekend go?  Oh, wait, I had an hour stolen from me. *snarl*

Did I mention I hate DST?  Because I do.

Gosh, answer this or don't answer this? Here's my answer: I don't want ANY of the major characters to leave from my favorite show. If they wanted to kill Strauss or Anderson I'd be fine with it (though I don't really hate Strauss, she's just an annoyance these days). But since they're writing two of the strongest, most realistic and sympathetic female characters on TV out of Criminal Minds over the next season, I guess this question has been answered for me by the bastards at CBS.

Before season four I might have been okay with writing JJ out of the show, but her maternity leave (and subsequent failed attempt at replacing her) just made me love her so much more. And as for Prentiss... Well, I've said before that I have never identified so strongly with a character on television. A woman who is strong, self-confident and yet oddly vulnerable, someone who's bad at romantic relationships, has a deep faith in God but resents the human dictates of the church, someone who has personal honor and integrity (to the point that she resigned rather than rat out her boss) and sucks at politics, someone who is a self-confessed nerd and actually dresses like I do even...

Well, you've all seen my posts about Criminal Minds and Prentiss. I don't think it's a secret how much I love Emily Prentiss.

I guess if I could drop a character from my favorite TV show, it would be the unnamed female character who will be "replacing" JJ and Emily in Season Six. Because I'm pretty sure that no matter how much I try, I'll never like her the way I have loved Emily Prentiss.

Some random things:

- I can't stop chewing on my lips today. They are peeling, and it's almost a compulsion to chew chew chew. It's annoying, and it's just a symptom of the fact that I feel like I'm going to crawl out of my own skin today. I don't know where that's coming from.

- My heart is doing its thing today, which it hasn't done for about a week. Blah. ETA: I think it's very likely that caffeine consumption has affected this today. I took Excedrin earlier, and combining that with the Coke and Dr. Pepper I've drunk so far, I've consumed about 413 mg of caffeine since 7:30 this morning. x.x

- It's freaking cold in here today. I'm wearing a tank top, long-sleeved shirt, and sweater, and I'm still frozen. I need some fingerless gloves for typing.

- OMG NANOWRIMO STARTS IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS! I AM SO NOT READY!

- Outlined my entire SnuSa fic today. Yes, I've got it about a third of the way written, but I decided outlining it would help me write it faster. That tactic has always worked with NaNo before.

- I have three fics in various stages of almost being ready to post. I can't believe this--THREE. From the girl who is usually antsy as hell to get things posted ASAPOMG! *grin* One of these is the fic that was originally written for [livejournal.com profile] pervy_werewolf.

- D--- said she does want me to come in on Monday, even though A--- will be back from maternity leave. I'm more than fine with having one more day of getting paid. I need to remember to call Kelly this afternoon and let them know I'll be available for assignments soon.

- I have now received three letters from the USDA letting me know my application has been received. No wonder the federal government costs so freaking much. Three letters for one application. LOL

- I want to go home.

- I hope my copy of Northlander is in the mailbox today. I'm absolutely dying to read [livejournal.com profile] megburden's book.

Because theentwife posted something about needing a community for the werewolf characters of Harry Potter, I've jumped in with both feet!

Check out hpwerewolf_love, a new community for people who want to write about or create art of the werewolf characters in the Harry Potter books. This includes Remus Lupin and Fenrir Greyback, ofcourse--but what about the unnamed werewolf in hospital with Arthur Weasley during OotP? Or Bill Weasley, whose life has been affected by Greyback? Or the Montgomery sisters, whose brother was killed by Greyback--what if they only pretended he was dead to hide the fact that he'd become a werewolf? Original characters are great, too!

I've also created werewolf_love, a multi-fandom community for people who want to write about or create art of werewolf characters. Harry Potter, Supernatural, Underworld, The Howling, New Moon and Eclipse, Moon Called...if it has werewolves, we want to see it!

Of course I've only helped out with a few things at lupin_snape and bymoonlight, so I can't claim to know a whole lot about community moderation, but it'll be a learning experience, and I'm always open to comments, questions, concerns, and suggestions.

Hmm.  I've read some posts, and I'm still amazed.  No offense to those of you who believed this would happen, but when I saw the rumours, I seriously thought There is no way this is going to happen.  And then it did.  I'm gobsmacked.

The thing is, I'm really sad about this because I LOVE LJ.  I don't like the way they've responded to this, but I'm still crossing my fingers that they'll do right by the people who were illegitimately affected, ie FANDOM.

I'm a permanent account holder, and the last time there was an LJ scare (the Vox controversy, I believe) it all blew over.  This is, to my mind, a bit more serious, because it involves CENSORSHIP, which to a writer and librarian is a dirty word.

I'm still hoping this will blow over with little in the way of wreckage.

But just in case, I've had http://innerslytherin.greatestjournal.com/ for ages now and never used it.  This seems like a good time to let y'all know where to find me, if it becomes necessary.

*sigh*

I'm going to go bury myself in my RPG LJ now and hope it doesn't get deleted because the character is a bisexual and that might offend someone.

I'm copying off of [livejournal.com profile] thesnapelyone, because she just fell asleep at the computer while we were writing, so she won't be able to yell at me for it.

My first ever Snupin fic was posted on 3 March 2004.  I'm approaching my third anniversary as a Snupin shipper, though it didn't become my OTP until February of 2005, while RPing in Walpurgis Night as half of a Snupin romance.

Since that time, I've written fifteen major Snupin fics, some of them one-shots, a couple of them novel-length, and one (Redemption) currently unfinished.

My first slash fic was my immortal - Remus/Sirius, set just post-OotP, and a songfic.  Of course.  That was posted on 8 October 2003.

This was followed by the Draco/Remus series I cowrote with [livejournal.com profile] slightlyjillian, starting in October 2003 and finishing in December 2004.  Those were a decidedly dark set of fics, let me tell you!

My first Harry Potter fanfic was 2002's Brothers in Arms and its sequels, written before OotP came out.  It was the first of six semi-dystopian songfics focusing on Ron, Draco, Ginny, Harry, Hermione, and Justin Finch-Fletchley.  These were posted 30 June, 18 July, 9 September, 2 November, and 28 December of 2002, and 19 February 2003.

This series was followed on 30 August 2002 by the novel-length (and in a permanent state of incompleteness) These Deep Solitudes, a hetfic featuring Remus/OFC, Snape/OFC, where the OFC was Rain McGonagall, Minerva's younger cousin.  The summary kinda cracks me up:  During Harry's fifth year, Minerva McGonagall's cousin Rain comes to Hogwarts to be the History of Magic professor. Rain, a Ravenclaw, was a year behind the Marauders, and had romantic entanglements with both Sirius and Remus. She was also the only one of James' friends to befriend Snape. With Remus back as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and Snape being snarky and courageous, Rain has some difficult issues to sort out...and someone is trying to kill her...  My last post, chapter 10, was on 27 September 2003.  I sort of lost heart after Sirius died in canon, particularly as I had plans for a sequel to TDS.

I haven't written much true genfic in my fandom days.  Veteran of the Psychic Wars, written on 6 Feb 2005, was the first of them, and last year's A Healer's Eyes was the second.

Fringe ships I've written are Ginny/Severus, Ginny/Remus, Bill/Hermione (sorta).  And of course I've written Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, and even got Harry/Draco in as a secondary pairing to my Snupin Santa fic, which...I haven't got on my table of contents yet.  Huh.

It is opening with the first ever Eilieen Prince-Snape centric fic-a-thon!!!

Go and look!  Write her!  Draw her!  She's a great character and we need to generate all the fandom material on her we can in the next few months before DH comes out!  Besides, [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly and [livejournal.com profile] thesnapelyone are running the comm, and they're both awesome people.

What are you doing still here?  GO!

GO!

ETA: Oh, yeah, and [livejournal.com profile] busaikko, it just occurred to me that you should post "As Simple As That" over there, because it's a damn good fic and it also fits well. ^_^
