Okay, show of hands, who's on Dreamwidth? Are we circled there? If not, please feel free to circle me. I have two: Innerslytherin and writing journal (my real name). At some point, if I leave LJ for good, I'll probably transition most of my stuff to my real name journal.

*stomps foot* This is haaaaaaard! *whines*

I don't want to leave LJ. I'm not yet leaving LJ for good, but I really really really would prefer to start checking my flist there instead of here. It's super easy to set up Dreamwidth to crosspost to LJ, which is what I'm doing currently anyway. If LJ does what I expect and ignores the outcry (because really, when haven't they ignored public outcry?), we'll have that nasty friends view pushed on us, and I will not check my flist here anymore. It's ugly, I have my customized LJ layout for my pleasure and no one else's, and this is my line in the sand.

I love you all a lot, but please please tell me if you're on DW or moving to DW, or if you're most active elsewhere (Tumblr, etc). I'm not very active on Tumblr, but I'll happily follow people and check in from time to time.

ETA: I'll still respond to any comments left here. I'm just not planning to read this new feed format they're showing.

A decade

Wow. I just realized that today marks my 10th anniversary of my LJ. What's awesome is that means I have known some of you all for ten years now. Not many--my friends list has changed so much over the past decade--but a few! LJ is a lot different than it was when I first joined. Not only the company and service it provides, but also the culture here and how everyone uses LJ. I know mine has become mostly a real-life journal, instead of fannish, and that seems to be the case for a lot of my friends. And some of the friends I first met on LJ, I actually interact with more on Facebook, or the phone or text messages.

Still, I love my LJ friends, and I hope none of you go away. While I crosspost from Dreamwidth these days, I really am still more active reading-wise at LiveJournal.

I'm posting with this icon because I think it's the oldest one I still have.

First, a personal note: I am on Dreamwidth as Innerslytherin, and if you are on DW please let me know what your username is. I'm not leaving here, but I want to improve my flist on DW since LJ has been sucking overall lately anyway and this new business pisses me right off.

I was gonna update this with much happier stuff, but for the past week I've just been so enraged with LJ's asshattery that I've had it to here.

In case you didn't know, on 12/12 they first announced sneakily on the Russian journal of LJ's design guy that with new changes being implemented tomorrow, there will be no more subject lines in comments and that this change was "non-negotiable" (good round-up and translation here). I'm sure you all realize that this will basically make fandom and RP communities unusable. LJ's staff, however, doesn't give a shit. At least 18 pages of 100% negative feedback didn't sway them.

They've backpedaled some and will make keeping comment subject lines optional in some S2 styles, but the default (that 99% of communities are running right now) will decidedly be subject-less! Not to mention that their new and frankly, fucking ugly design will take forever to load and make the site a pain to use on mobile browsers.

And oh, it looks like they might be taking away the drop-down menu to select icons as well, so you'll have to load all your icons as pictures to select them. Lovely. (I will beta-test tonight to see if this is actually true.)

Really, I don't know why I'm surprised. LJ is always fucking with the parts of the site that actually work and breaking them, so this is just another instance of that. Because seriously, who are subject lines hurting by just being there? (And no, it can't be a matter of server strain, considering the new "graphic" interface will definitely be using up more resources - so much fun when there's DDoS attacks!)
As far as I know, they've never once listened to their customers, so those thousands of comments already posted probably won't do shit. I've left a message expressing my concerns about the new comment pages here anyway; so if you want to do that too, go for it! If anything, it helps with the rage. ;)

FYI: Dreamwidth is feeling Christmasy has reacted to LJ's bullshit and has open account creation (no invite codes needed) for the rest of the week. Might be a good idea to get your back-up or new home, whatever the case may be, up and running now.

Dear LiveJournal,

I do NOT want my entries or comments posted to Twtiter or Facebook!  STOP ASKING ME!  And why did you interfere with the flow of "type comment - hit tab - hit enter - post"???  Now when I do that you ask me to set my Facebook and Twitter settings!  NO NO NO!  Some of us use keyboard shortcuts and the TAB key and you have MESSED THAT UP!

Not much love right now,

Me

In other news, I think I had a date tonight, but I'm not sure.  He's going on vacation Thursday, so I guess I'll find out after Labor Day if it was a date or just drinks that lasted for an hour and a half.

There's a reason I don't date much. Or maybe this is WHY I don't date much.  >.>

Dear LiveJournal,

Thank you for getting in touch with me again, but I'm really tired of the notifications about free snowflake cookies. I realize that I have a bunch and that everyone on my flist has a bunch. But at this point, I'm going to have to break out a snow shovel just to get to the real email in my inbox. It's getting annoying.

Love,

Snowbound in Indy

PS - Yes, I'm aware that I can turn the notification feature off. I did that last night. So why you're still emailing me I can only imagine is something to do with the notification failures this weekend.

Dear Allergies,

I take Singulair every night to keep you at bay. I take Nasonex in the mornings to further hold you off. And today I've added Zyrtec and Benadryl on top of those to try to fight you away. Please to be admiting defeat and issuing forthwith your unconditional surrender.

No Love,

Little Red Running Nose

Dear Weather,

You can stop snowing and blowing 60 mph and being cold outside any time now. Do Not Want.

Okay, I've been doing some LJ clean-up today, leaving comms I no longer read and the like. If you've friended me recently and want to be friended back, comment here, okay? I know I've missed a lot of people lately.

On this day in 2002 I created my journal with a paid account.

Since then I have made 3,919 journal entries, which is just about 1.5 entries per day, which is WAY more than I ever used to journal, even if the .5 per day accounts for all the memes I used to do in the early days. I've made 25,537 comments to other people, and received 24,570 comments from other people. I've met at least twenty of my LJ friends in person, and there are a good half dozen people that I met through LJ that I consider pure kindred spirits, among my closest and most trusted friends in real life. I've also made the acquaintance, albeit longdistance, of all KINDS of cool and exciting and interesting people, who have taught me to think in new and fascinating ways. I discovered NaNoWriMo through LJ, and because of NaNoWriMo I have at least four novels that I actually think I can sell someday, and a fifth one that some day I will finish. In addition I have co-writing projects ( a short story and a novel) with two fantastic people, both of whom I am going to get to hang out with in the next month.

You guys, I have been so blessed.

Because while I absolutely love the sexiness that is SSA David Rossi, I felt the need to have some hawt Unit Chief Aaron Hotchner in there too.

In other news, I did some cleaning inside and some mowing and weeding outside today. Had to fight off the mosquitos big time. I'm just hoping I didn't get in the poison ivy while I was weeding. There's a little patch of it growing under the hammock, and I'm gonna have to go out there with some Round-up later.

Mom and Dad have been trying to wrangle the blackberry patch into submission. They both look like they lost the war today. I'm lucky; since I'm afraid of spiders and have grown to rather dislike blackberries, I've been spared that part of the work. [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly, I'll have more jelly for you in a few weeks! Though it'll be last year's jelly. This year, we're not sure we'll have enough for jelly, just because they're being ruthless in their hack-and-slash campaign.

It's impossible to start a U-Pick blackberry business if U can't Pick because you're not double-jointed or two feet tall.

This goes back to my early early days in HP fandom. So, y'know, September of 2002. I was in the middle of reading Maya's fic "Draco Malfoy the Amazing Bouncing...Rat?" Draco gets mysteriously turned into a rat and has no idea who did it or how to get un-ratted. And in the meantime he's hanging around with Gryffindors because Ron is missing Scabbers and has adopted him. Draco tries talking to them, but no one seems to understand...except that he discovers Gryffindors have a snarky side, and begins to wonder if even Gryffindors have a little inner Slytherin who makes snarky remarks.

Except Maya made that line a lot funnier. *G*

Anyway, the reason I was starting this LJ was partly because of my growing HP fandom involvement and my desire to start writing fic. Another reason was because I worked with a couple of people who drove me freaking crazy, and I wanted to rant. I wanted to use this LJ as a place to vent all my spleen so I wouldn't do that at work. As it turned out, my LJ has become a MAJOR part of my life, so it's filled with more than just the hidden Slytherinish parts of me. *G* In fact sometimes I even display my Gryffindor streak.

But in any case...yeah. I can't even imagine changing my LJ name now.
