So the tech guy came out today to fix my computer. He ended up having to take it with him because they didn't tell him what model it was and he didn't have some tool he needed. So he ended up calling me a couple times during the course of the evening. First he said that he'd replaced the motherboard and that didn't fix the problem. He asked if he could run the recovery discs. I said yeah, I'd backed up all my critical data. (I didn't wail about losing all my screencaps, wallpapers, icons, and banners until after I hung up.) The second time he called, he said that it was the video card I installed in February that was failing, and he was going to connect the motherboard to the preinstalled graphics card, and would probably ship the computer back tomorrow.

So why didn't I try switching back to the old video card?

I THOUGHT about it, you guys. I honestly considered it, then dismissed it because the display wasn't GONE, it was just getting tired. I thought it couldn't be the video card.

So instead of going with my hunch and trying it, I've lost all my screencaps and everything.

My writing is safe. I made a point to back that up before even trying to fix the computer. My music is on the external hard drive, so it's safe.

But my GRAPHICS! And I haven't been brave enough yet to hook the external hard drive up to the netbook and see if I've lost all of Season Five of CM yet. I record the show on my computer because that's where my TV signal comes in, but I can't remember if I saved it to the internal or external hard drive. I have a very bad feeling that it was all on the internal and I've lost season five until my DVDs get here. *cries*

Got my driver's license in the mail today. Thank heavens. I discovered a couple of weeks ago that I'd been driving around with an expired license since my birthday in October. Getting old's a bitch, I tell ya. But of course, because I waited until after Jan 1 to renew it, I had to have my passport, SS card, pay stub, a bill sent to my home address, etc., etc., because Indiana's started this new secure ID process. I also had to not smile for my photo and tilt my face just right, because they scan all BMV photos for facial recognition software. Makes me wonder how Garcia can run facial recognition software on surveillance footage from 20 feet away LOL. Anyway, they mail the license to you, which is oh-so-secure considering the snow plow has hit our mailbox three times this winter and it won't even shut, let alone stay secure. But fortunately it arrived safely.

Also went home from work after just two hours with a nasty migraine setting in. Poor Dad had to drive me home and then go back to work. :( Slept in the car for about an hour before he could get away. Got home around 11:30, went to bed, and slept until about 5:30, when I woke up starving and with just a tiny headache left, thank God. Mom had left me hot chicken soup before leaving for Bible study, which was also nice.

New Criminal Minds tonight! Looks creepy, and reminds me of a book I just read back in December - Hide Your Eyes by Alison Gaylin. It was a weird one, with enucleators and doll collectors. Creeped me out, but it was so well-written with a fun, quirky heroine that I also really enjoyed it.

My church has ties to an orphanage/school in Haiti (one of the elders' sisters runs it, I believe, or maybe his sister-in-law) and frequently does mission trips down there. I had been wanting to take part the last time but didn't have the money. The CBS evening news was entirely about Haiti, and the stories out of there are horrible. I'm glad that the US response has been so quick at least. There's an Indianapolis church with a mission trip currently IN Haiti, and they're still waiting to find out if they're okay.

I feel wrung-out this evening. Looking forward to Criminal Minds and bed. Ooh, but look, I get to use my new Emily headache icon.

PS - Nicky Boothroyd, why did you friend me on Facebook? We have no one in common and I have no idea who you are.

So. I have a lot of hair on my forearms. Not particularly dark hair, and probably no one notices because of all my freckles. But it bothers me, so I sometimes trim it with scissors. Yes, I realize I shouldn't have been doing it at work, but I had just noticed a couple of hairs I must have missed last time because, you know, they were long. And I wasn't careful enough about it. So now I have a chunk missing from my arm near my elbow, and it hurts like a bitch.

This is my life, man.
