Writer's conferences

I would LOVE to go to the Writer's Digest Editors' Intensive, but who has $299 sitting around? I understand it's awesome to get a 50-page manuscript evaluation and a one-on-one meeting with a WD editor, but OMG that's a lot of money to spend on a two-day event.
