innerslytherin: (write - call this working)
I'm pushing up against a couple of deadlines, so of course today I had to clean out my closet.

*sigh*

In my own defense, I made a lot of progress against one of the deadlines this morning. I was multi-tasking by running laundry while working, and I made the mistake of stepping into my closet. It's been bothering me for weeks now, and with the Tiny Wardrobe Tour lecture coming up in a week, I just couldn't take it anymore. I pulled everything out of the closet, switched winter clothes for spring/summer clothes, vacuumed, KonMaried the closet clothes (not the dresser clothes, those will have to wait until next weekend), and rearranged the closet a bit.

It's a large closet. I've considered setting up a tiny desk and sound system in there to write. I definitely plan to use it as a sound studio when I get around to recording my audiobooks.

Anyway, it is now a pleasure to step into the closet, and I have perhaps 50 pieces of clothing hanging in it, and now I have one last hour to work on the writing deadline before I need to go to bed. Also, my back is killing me.

Boss is out for the next two weeks, which means our staff is effectively down by a third. There are four of us who work there, but one doesn't do any public stuff if she can help it (and who can blame her, it isn't part of her job description). So I'm working extra hours this week and next, which will be lovely for my bank account but not so lovely for my writing and Etsy time.

Tried a recipe from [personal profile] angelofthenorth tonight--the Sweet Potato and Pepper Soup was delicious!

Tomorrow I start the work week, and hopefully finish one of my two deadline projects.

CRABBY

It's possibly a new record. I am super-crabby and it's only an hour and
twenty minutes into the work day. So far every program I've opened has
taken an average of two minutes to start, and I've had a software
update. I restarted after the update thinking that would speed things
up. It hasn't. Obnoxious perfume woman came through so I want to barf.
And everyone is talking loudly instead of working, so I have no real
motivation to do anything, either.

Noisy

Work is incredibly noisy today. They're tearing up the old linoleum tile in the hallway outside the accounting office, and that machine is very loud. And two of the Accounts Payable ladies are working on something together and talking loudly. Not to mention the usual sounds of the shared printer right across from my cubicle going and going and going.

None of it is making my headache feel any better.

I really really wish we were allowed to listen to iPods or radios here.

Ugh. This week work is boring me to death.

Leave interesting comments to this entry so the emails will entertain me. Keep in mind that I can't respond until I get home tonight. (Hurray for email-posting.)

And if you mirror your LJ at IJ and I don't have you friended over there, comment with a link to your IJ. Because corporate IT hasn't yet twigged to the fact that InsaneJournal is also a social networking/blogging site. *grin*

Cold

It's cold in here. I have on a tank top, a button-down shirt, and my big fleece shirt, and am cold enough that I keep snuggling into the fleece. My hands are freezing. Just now, C--- stood up and said, "Okay, I've got to get coffee. I'm even cold." Considering I work with a lot of post-menopausal women, you KNOW it's cold if THEY'RE cold!

I'm hoping the company president will announce that he's going to keep the a/c turned warmer this summer to save money. He's the one who apparently decided to keep the heat turned cooler to save money over the winter. >.> I'd love it if I were actually able to dress for summer when I come to work, instead of bundling up to keep from freezing.

[livejournal.com profile] zephre, I got your postcard yesterday! It's gorgeous! I hope you're having a grand time.

Randomly, one of the AP women has been fussing for the past two days about a big report that was on the printer yesterday morning. She doesn't know whose report it is. She keeps asking people if they know. My thought is, "Hey, we have these nifty trays over the printer where we put print jobs that haven't been claimed. Why don't you put it there and shut up about it?"

I signed the papers so I can use the fitness room here. It's still not convenient since we get here early in the mornings, which makes me not want to stay late. But Dad's on vacation next week, so I can come in at the normal time, and then work out a couple of days after work. And then after that I may drive myself in once a week so I can work out after work. I've been walking at home, but walking the same mile over and over isn't fun, and there's a lot of traffic on the other road.

Sleeeeepy. I wish I liked coffee. I'm having to ingest my caffeine in the form of Vault, which is COLD. A hot beverage would be very welcome right now. But I to stay awake more than I need to be warm.

This is the third day running when I've felt miserably ill. I drag through the day, I sleep all the way home (while Dad drives), and I crash early. I had a couple of hours after lunch today where I felt better, but I'm back to super cruddy now. Meh.

[livejournal.com profile] thesnapelyone, did you send me a book? I got a book from a bookstore in Cleveland! :D So excited to read it.

Signed all my benefits stuff today, so as of April 1 I'm going to have health, dental, and vision. Also found out that come June I'll have 2 personal days and 2 sick days, so yippee! They're counting December as my start date.

I think that's about all the news from here...I'm going to crash until supper in the hopes that that will help.

I can't keep my eyes open today.

This is how it usually works: Dad and I commute together, so he drives in the morning and I drive in the afternoon. In the morning, after I eat my Poptarts, I snuggle under my down stadium blanket and go to sleep. We get to work an hour before my start time, so I lay the seat back, play an audiobook on my iPod, and set my phone alarm for five minutes before start time. Over the past three months, I have discovered that that last hour-long nap is essential to my having a productive day. If I don't get that nap, I am fighting sleep the rest of the day. (The exception to this rule is if Dad and I drive separately for some reason--but on those days, I sleep an extra hour in my bed, so it evens out.)

Yesterday I asked Dad to run a quick errand for me, and in exchange promised to drive both morning and afternoon today. Once we got to work (and I'd had to deal with the surprise of snowy, slick roads when we got off the interstate and into the city), I was awake enough that I couldn't get back to sleep. So I came inside and read for a while, and started nodding off about 20 minutes til my start time. So I closed my eyes for about 10 minutes or so, but that didn't help.

I've already had a can of Coke Zero, a cup of hot chocolate, and a glass of Vault. The caffeine is doing nothing. The freezing temperature in the office is doing nothing, either, except forcing me to wear my Slytherin scarf as an accessory to my brown-and-blue outfit. ([livejournal.com profile] severity_softly, I am wearing one light brown argyle sock and one green sock, and yes, they are the same length and texture.) I wish we could have space heaters in our cubicles, but the safety director comes through and confiscates those periodically, so no one even brings them in anymore.

Of course, it also doesn't help that C-- has been out both yesterday and today, and she usually helps keep me awake. But I also usually have an entertainment team in place: [livejournal.com profile] astraea36, [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly, and my best friend. But [livejournal.com profile] astraea36 is working mids this week, which means I have her for the first hour of my day, and then she goes home and goes to bed. [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly is off work (how dare she) today, so she is sleeping in. And best friend has checks today, which means she's not at her desk.

So that's what's going on in my life today. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
