Maybe you should tell your friend that it wasnt America who pulled out of Rwanda first anyway, they were pressured to by other states who wanted out of there without looking like cowards, it wasnt difficult considering what happened in Mogadishu just months before and what the American people saw in their 6 o'clock news and the political mess that caused. the taste for intervention went out of style for a while there...maybe you'll find this interesting if you havent seen this before http://www.moviesfoundonline.com/true_story_of_black_hawk_down.php its basically the book BHD in documetary form. its a very well done doc, Bowden's even in it at one point and a lot of the soldiers and some of the major political players of the time.
oh and i do reccomend Gen. Romeo Dallaire's account of Rwanda...to u and ur friend..."Shake Hands with the Devil". do read it and tell me what you think...its quite a hefty book but very readable.
