I really don't want to be here today. I have a headache, though the congestion I woke up with has fortunately faded. (Still, it's worth noting that both Mom and Dad are sick, so it's probably only a matter of time before I get it.) I wanted to stay in bed. I did convince Mom to call in sick, though, which is a major accomplishment.

It isn't that I'm ungrateful for this job and the steady income it provides for now. It's just that I keep believing that somewhere, somehow, there has to be a job that will engage my mind and challenge me, something that will make me look forward to getting up in the morning and going to work. There has to be a job that is suited to my skills, abilities, and interests. There has to be a place I can be respected as well as respecting my coworkers.

On the flip side of that, I do have 3,000 words of my [livejournal.com profile] pervy_werewolf challenge fic written, and I'm fairly pleased with it, though I worry they're getting a little too chatty for their circumstances. If I execute this right, this is going to be a fic laden with angst but seasoned with laughs, and of course a happy ending. If not, it's going to suck. *grin*

[livejournal.com profile] duckygirlrocks has pretty much sealed my conviction that Dad and I need to build his next computer. I've done a bit of research already, but I really need to take a look at his computer and see the graphics card and power source I put in for him last year. I can't remember what exactly they are, or what the pin configuration is, and if we can salvage those, I'm more than willing to put the old power source and graphics card in before I take the Dell. After all, I'm not running those games he likes, Oblivion and the other Elder Scrolls games that require the huge graphics ability. Sims 2, I am sure, will run perfectly well on the old standard.

I realized with a shock yesterday that [livejournal.com profile] culpeapatria is less than a week away from the timeskip. We're going to be jumping forward a year in time on 1 Oct. The month of October will have highlights posts from the intervening year, and once players have those posted for their characters, they'll start in posting as if it were 2000 instead of 1999. I've never done this before, but I look forward to trying it.

In other news, I've been thinking about NaNoWriMo already. They'll let people start signing up again on 1 Oct. I had been planning to delve back in American (Midwestern) history and working on the next installment of my urban fantasy novels, but the more I think about it, the more I want to go back and revisit my epic fantasy novel. This would involve invoking the Zokutou Clause that states
You have to start your novel from scratch, unless you are a previous NaNoWriMo winner. If you have already attained the status of Winner, you do not need to start a new novel, as your main aim is now to finish one. You can now consider yourself a winner if, by midnight on the 30th of November, you have either:

1. Written 50,000 words on one or more previous works.
2. Completed your novel's first draft.

They even have a modified word meter that will allow you to include your previous total word count. (They also have a random word generator to provide inspiration if you're stuck *grin*)

So anyway. This is what I'm thinking about it at the moment.

Are they doing the timeskip because of all the players that are leaving? Or are there players to pick up the characters whose players are leaving?

Pardon me while I dodge this anvil.

;)

With culpae patria I'm not sure I could handle the angstfest that it is. It has funny moments, but at times I roll my eyes at the "WOE! ANGST! WOE/ANGST!" of it.

I'm still keeping an eye on my employer's job postings. Nothing lately, but there will probably be some not too far into the future. I doubt it's anyone's dream job at the moment, but the pay and benefits are very nice.

What a pity you won´t write a SS/RL 50000 words novel *wistful*
