Gube can direct more often, but only if someone clues him in that Dave and Emily need MORE SCREEN TIME TOGETHER. Not to mention he should share more scenes with Hotch. *cough*

But holy FUCK how fucking CREEPY was that episode? OMG dude.

Who else was waiting to see the old bitch pushed in the crematorium, huh? I wasn't alone in that, was I?

Hotch's trauma!hair is going away! And Gubler's haircut is SO MUCH BETTER than it was!

But Emily and Dave seriously needed to be in, like, ONE scene together, come on!

JJ kicked ass finding that hinge.

OMG I really sort of wanted to cry at the end though. To learn their boy died protecting someone, but just the day before? How awful.

Great episode, seriously high in creepiness factor.

PS - I also loved the exchange with doubting!Morgan

Morgan: You sure it's not 'cause you're a mom?
JJ: SMACKDOWN, BITCH!
Em: Yeah, what she said, bitch!
Hotch: ...yeah, Morgan, shut up. We'll take the case. *is scared of JJ*

Seriously awesome episode!! I was in tears at the end. Poor Stephen's parents. Hopefully they will eventually find comfort that their son helped someone else.

And next week's episode's trailer had a picture drawn by Matthew in it

You weren't alone, especially since I read an interview where MGG described it as a "real Hansel and Gretel story."

I think the writer missed a couple of good stopping places, but damn, they gave a first-time director one of the most complicated (in terms of number and blocking of actors especially) episodes they've ever had.

Dave was totally Sir-Not-Appearing-In-This-Episode, which is probably what we get for all the lovely Dave bits in last week's episode (TWO "Emily"s!)

And I loved Garcia and the one victim's mother, she was so lovely.

And it was clearly because he was so mouthy in last week's, which annoys me. I wish the writers would balance it out - it seems weird to have him unequivocally take point last week, and then barely say a word this week.

(Though I did have a minor freakout moment at the Significant Looks they threw each other when Emily says she's "not a mother" and when Emily mentions how submissive Charlie must be.)

I KNOW RIGHT? I do like when people remember Garcia does bereavement counseling for victims, and JJ counsels new moms, and Morgan builds houses and teaches self-defense. Continuity is love.

Definitely ripe for the subtext.

I think I only noticed the submissive thing because my brain's firmly submerged in my [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang story, in which things like that feature. It's probably just my brain being weird.

Any excuse to rewatch is totally valid.

I'm so proud of him that I just want to SQUISH him! Of course, I usually want to squish him anyway, but I digress.

He did a fabulous job! Simply Fabulous!

The hanging dude creeped me out the most, but all hanging dudes do that anyway!

And YES...on the H/R!!
Of course I didn't expect to see much of Reid in this ep anyway, but it would have been nice to have him teamed with his lover at least once!

I agree! I wanted them to have at least one good scene together, and there was nothing. Although his moment at the end with Charlie's mother was cute.

Also, is it just me, or did the goatee make Morgan an asshole? Maybe I'm just noticing it more now, but... Really? Whatever happened to the promise of no interteam profiling Morgan?

Ohhh....Good point! Maybe it is all tied to the goatee! Goatee's are of the devil. *g*

Not necessarily, Rossi rocks a goatee and he's not evil all the time. I think it's just Morgan and a goatee.

That episode was SO creepy!

I wanted the kids to burn her in the crematorium, but I guess killing her was enough.

I felt sorry for Steven's parents, too.

I agree that there should have been more Hotch/Reid and Emily/Rossi, but isn't that the writers, not Matthew, who have the say over that?

I know that everybody has a week where they don't film that ep because they are filming something else - but Rossi sitting there like a lump was disconcerting. Other than that, I thought MGG did a great job! Maybe I was watching harder because I follow him on twitter and he's been so excited about this for the last month. I thought some parts could've gone farther. But the creep factor was high and the families were amazing.

I can see him doing another. :D

(definitely needed more Prentiss/Rossi time)

Are you on Twitter as innerslytherin? I'll follow you - I could've helped.

I actually thought maybe he had laryngitis or something for a bit. It was just freakish.

Anyway...MGG scares the crap out of me. The stuff in his head would scare Picasso. ;D

The episode was definitely creepy, more creepy than a lot of episodes have been. And I will admit to waiting for a Ms. Lovitt moment, I was actually yelling it at the TV as I watched, and my family stared at me like I was crazy. I suppose it was the 'Matthew! Mr. Lovitt her! Mr. Lovitt her!' that I yelled at the screen the entire time they were in the crematorium...

That woman was seriously creepy. I mean seriously.....

All in all, pretty good ep, but yeah, not enough Reid, or Hotch/Reid. And, honestly, I'm tired of the whole "oh, JJ's a mom, that must be interferring with her ability to be objective in a case where kids and/or mothers are involved" schtick. I don't recall them getting this annoying over Hotch and Jack. *sigh*

She was PERFECT though! Just the right amount of creepiness for MGG's style, really (AKA bordering on way too much creepiness) and I'm happy she did it. It was very good, but still creepy.

Also, I agree with the whole let's not pick on JJ any longer just because she's a mom point. It's kind of annoying.

I was so proud of him! (well, as proud as I can be of someone I don't know but think is awesome anyway). And creepy episode is very, very, VERY creepy. Well done, Matthew!

I loved JJ's smackdown of Morgan (JJ smacking people down should be a frequently recurring theme). But yeah, there definitely needed to be more Hotch/Reid and Dave/Emily interaction (although it doesn't surprise me that Reid (MGG) had limited screen time in this episode).

But poor Hotch -- the last three episodes have all had kids seeing/involved in death (son saw con man father shot in front of him, daughter saw father killed in church, and now kids kidnapped and dying to protect each other). After all this, I wouldn't be surprised if Hotch wanted keep Jack confined to his room until he turns 30!

I have to admit, though, that I was pretty excited watching this episode. And the creepiness was awesome... um... you know what I mean.

It was a brilliant episode! Matthew did an awesome job with it. That woman was so creepy!!!!! Her evil smile, those psycho eyes?
I must say, MMG has a wild imagination to come up with those things. I loved the music throughout the episode. It just fit so perfectly. I cried at the end when the families reunited with their kids.

The music was definitely spot on. Of course, I tend to like almost all the music in the episodes, so...

I DID cry. Lots.

And Morgan so needed smacking down.
