I don't have too high of a standard, considering I just now got back over $30k this year, and could afford to go lower if I actually enjoyed the work. I don't know if we're talking lower than that even, because I know the sorts of places that need historians usually don't pay well.
I've also been applying with the National Parks Service for 10 years, but sadly those jobs seem impossible to get too.
