I really like the tone you have hear. I thought it worked perfectly for this piece. The way you described Emily's past with her parents really fit her character and made me ache for her. I also liked the way Dave kept popping up when she needed a friend.
The last section was great and I loved that not everything to make her life complete was the marriage and kids, but it also included her career so she really did have it all.
