Ugh

I cannot breathe. Yesterday was spent in the grips of an allergy attack that made me utterly miserable. Today I am so freaking congested I feel like my head exploding would be a relief.

I'm starting to suspect I have a summer cold instead of allergies.

Benadryl was only mildly helpful last night, so tonight I'm going to try treating it with whiskey. We'll see how that goes.

I need to wash dishes and go through some more stuff. The church is having a yard sale at the end of the month to help fund the fall mission trip to Haiti, and I have three boxes of stuff to donate to that, but I'm sure there's a LOT more stuff I could get rid of.

For that matter, I may have to wrestle with my conscious about the guitar. It's probably worth about $150 or $200, but I could use it to pay off some bills... or I could use it to help clothe a schoolkid in Haiti. *sigh* We'll see about that.

Went to see HBP finally. I was underwhelmed with much of it, even though I found it enjoyable. It's odd how utterly apathetic I feel about that fandom now that I know how the story ends. And it's strange. I never read dueSouth fanfic until the canon was closed. I never read Dark is Rising fanfic until the canon was closed. Is it that I was active in the HP fandom while canon was still being developed? Is it that I still feel the last book was rushed and that there were some deep flaws? Or what?

I thought Tom Felton was the shining star of this movie and that it should have been called Draco Malfoy and the Half-Blood Prince. I also thought it was an interesting choice that the director made, to follow Draco through some moments that Harry absolutely wasn't privy to.

I thought the final scene was very poorly done. Even ignoring the fact that there should have been a great bloody battle raging throughout the castle, Rickman's performance as Snape was strikingly lacklustre in that scene. I thought he did all right early on. I enjoyed the scene with Bellatrix and Narcissa (who has inexplicably gotten dark hair, wtf?) and his expression when he took the Unbreakable Vow. But where was all the pain and rage and grief over having to kill Dumbledore?

Not to mention, WTF DUMBLEDORE APPARATING FROM INSIDE HOGWARTS?! Dude, not only was that BLATANTLY WRONG, it also totally made the Death Eaters showing up at the castle completely freaking RANDOM. At least in the book we knew that Rosmerta had been spying for the Death Eaters because she was under Imperius, and that was how the Death Eaters knew to show up at Hogwarts that night. Seriously, people. LOGIC! Bless me, what DO they teach them in schools today?

*sigh*

Anyway. Overall I enjoyed it, and Aragog's funeral was brilliantly funny. I thought Slughorn was very well played. I'll buy the DVDs. But I'm kind of glad I didn't bother paying extra for IMAX 3-D.

It's just in your head? Or in your chest?

For your head:

Sudafed - the good stuff you have to get at the Pharmacy counter (in Idaho, you have to show your drivers license but I'm not sure what the requirements are for each state) and not the PE stuff that is crap. It'll wire you so don't take it before bed.

Heat - a warm shower, a mug of something warm, a steam bath

A Neti Pot (or a Neli Med which is another brand) - it sounds gross but I love mine and it helps! It works along the lines of osmosis and helps get rid of the gross stuff that gets into your sinus cavity. Follow the instructions and it's no worse than putting your head under the water of a bath or swimming pool.

Chewing Trident: another one that sounds weird but there's something in the Xylitol that keeps germs in your throat and other places from being able to feed so they die. Weird but a nice way to fight germs!

That's all I can think of at the moment. Vitamin D will help but it won't CURE you, it'll just prevent you from getting sick next time.

Your friendly neighborhood Pharmacy Tech...

Sweetie, as someone who's had one of these summer colds get thee to a doctor. "Elephant on the chest" is often the symptom of walking pneumonia.

It's absolutely treatable, but the longer you wait before treatment starts the longer you'll be sick.

Neti pots are nasty, but VERY useful if it is just a head cold. I'm usually better within two days if I use it.

The other good vitamin is zinc. It's particularly helpful in lozenge form.

No, no! She's right. You aren't being an alarmist! If the pressure is in your chest, that's different!

Try Cold Eeze. Those taste the best that I've found. The problem with zinc is that you need to take it at the first signs for it to be really useful. You can still take it during but it does its best work when you first start feeling the symptoms.

Most lozenges have sorbitol and I'm allergic to that. I take the pills, but it's difficult on a sore throat. If I need a lozenge, I use the cold-eeze all natural honey and lemon ones. They aren't great, but they're better than most.

If you're having pain with the pressure, plan your day tomorrow around a doctor's visit. Seriously, woman, don't make me come out there and drag you myself. *G*

Draco Malfoy and the Half-Blood Prince. Now! There's a movie I would have gone to see.

Honestly, I feel the same way--apathetic. Now that I know how it wraps up, the overall fandom and franchise is less interesting to me. Which is bizarre, because I'm a repeat viewing girl. I don't drop fandoms. Good grief, I saw Star Trek four times. It's never been an issue of what happens to keep me watching. It's that I loved the journey.

Oh dear. Maybe that means I didn't love the Harry Potter journey.

I don't want to be a downer. :) Just thought I'd seize the opportunity to work out some thoughts too.

I track with that downward pattern too. Alas. :)

I love your icon, btw.

There's been a summer cold going around work. My sister had it too, and it was pretty miserable. Knock on wood, I've avoided it so far, but time will tell. I'm sorry you feel lousy. Summer colds are the worst.

I hope your head and congestion clear up soon! I find that one thing that influences how much pressure I'm feeling in my head and throat is the weather and humidity level. if this influences you as well, may things dry up soon. ^_^

oh wow, YES. YES.

Rickman's performance as Snape was strikingly lacklustre in that scene.

Totally! I was sitting there thinking, "He sounds like he's trying to sell us life insurance."

Hope you feel better soon, and it could still be allergies if your head feels like exploding. I know the allergies I had recently were brutal, I couldnt believe they were just allergies but they were....confirmed by my doc.

You arent the only one underwhelmed by the new HP. I havent seen it but I was underwhelmed by the last two books so didnt have much hope that the films would give me what I wanted. My mom is a superhuge fan so I will be buying the DVDs for her when they come out.
