Deathly Hallows

I have finished DH.  Those are eight hours of my life I'll never get back.

It was every piece of het-fic cliche drivel ever written.  I expected more from JKR than the "Rocks fall and everyone dies" joke that we've been making for the past year.

This is bullshit.

I'm going back to Order of the Phoenix as my jumping off point for fics from here on out.  I'll probably go on using some of the things from HBP, such as Snape being a half-blood.  I'll be finishing Redemption and Bound Souls and other fics as if Deathly Hallows never happened.

JKR will never see another penny of my money no matter what she writes.

I know I tend to be pretty single-minded about my characters, but...

Snape's death I could take, the fact that it was a wasted effort motivated by ignorance I could take (because those things happen), but the offhand way he was treated afterwards, Harry not thinking that much about him, no mention of his body afterwards... >< ...

I'm glad you're going on with your stories. I've been worried about what people might do with their stuff if it was jossed. It's a shame about canon, though.

I find it strange that after the other books spoilers where everywhere...after this one...the interwebs seem to give it one big meh.

...yeah, it really was a big 'screw you all very much' to anyone who were interested in characters other than the trio and the destined girlfriend.

The part where she spent several hundred pages having them wander around in the forest because she couldn't let the plot actually get anywhere too soon was a real winner too, especially when you consider how much better use that many pages could have been put to - Snape offed with no actual reflection from Harry on the difference between his perception and the reality, Lupin and Tonks offed offstage with no actual reflection just to make sure there was no canon-fanfic potential left in either of them -- I swear I MISSED that the first time around and Harry casually reflecting on them being dead a couple dozen pages later made me go bwuh? and page back until I found it tucked in like an afterthought in a paragraph.

None of the deaths surprised me -- I knew Snape wasn't going to survive and suspected Lupin wouldn't either because of her general 'screw you fandom'-ness for anyone who likes more variety than the teen heroes -- but what DID surprise me was how disposable they all were. "Hey it's the last book, let's blow shit up for the hell of it!" is really not the way to have gone, in my jaded opinion.

She really isn't and never has been a GOOD writer, just an insanely POPULAR one, in my opinion...

I don´t understand why Snape didn´t have his portrait there too - he was a headmaster too! I really hoped that Harry at least would tell Snape his lifework had been appreciated! And I don´t care that he told everyone else.

I am devastated. She killed Lupin, fine, I expected her to do it. He was one of my favourites, and she kept killing those through the series. I feared she would kill Snape who would be a good person instructed by Dumbledore. She did. I am horribly sad for my most favourite person, but honestly, I saw it coming. But to portrait Snape as a tragic hero, who loved and never ever had been loved until he died it set me off.

I forgot to mention the last kick in the guts, that really wasn´t needed. After everything that happened, Dumbledore just says something about sorting people too early. Evidently Snape might have been sorted to Gryffindor and all the relationship and his life might have been radically different. The most unnecessary slap!

yep, pretty much gonna ignore it myself. with possible exceptions for grindelore, kickass!neville and regulus&kreacher. could the ending *be* cheesier????

Oh thank gods I'm not the only one! There were parts I appreciated, but...but...!

Seriously, anyone who had any affection at all for the older generation got royally screwed. We were left with nothing and no one in the end. I always knew Severus was going to die. I just hoped for more. After all he's done, and we finally know we've all been right all along and he's been doing so much to save Harry's skin, to have him killed in such a manner... Did Arthur survive like three or four bites? Granted not to his neck, but still! And the trio can just stand there and watch?

I can't even get started on how badly Remus got shafted. Just thinking about him makes me want to cry right now. I always said that unless she could find a way to do it so the plot absolutely could not continue without it, killing Remus had the potential to ruin everything for me. And to have it be so senseless and unexplained! Just another random casualty of war to smack us alongside the head with, as if we hadn't already figured out that war was senseless and cruel?

I put "This Isn't Real" on hold until after DH because it's been my 'explain away the canon with canon' fic. But, I haven't even gotteen out of OotP yet and it's supposed to go until the end of the war. I don't think DH canon is going to play a part at all.

I keep trying to like this book and there are parts, moments, that I do like. But, overall, as a reader, I feel hopelessly betrayed.
