innerslytherin: (write - call this working)
I'm pushing up against a couple of deadlines, so of course today I had to clean out my closet.

*sigh*

In my own defense, I made a lot of progress against one of the deadlines this morning. I was multi-tasking by running laundry while working, and I made the mistake of stepping into my closet. It's been bothering me for weeks now, and with the Tiny Wardrobe Tour lecture coming up in a week, I just couldn't take it anymore. I pulled everything out of the closet, switched winter clothes for spring/summer clothes, vacuumed, KonMaried the closet clothes (not the dresser clothes, those will have to wait until next weekend), and rearranged the closet a bit.

It's a large closet. I've considered setting up a tiny desk and sound system in there to write. I definitely plan to use it as a sound studio when I get around to recording my audiobooks.

Anyway, it is now a pleasure to step into the closet, and I have perhaps 50 pieces of clothing hanging in it, and now I have one last hour to work on the writing deadline before I need to go to bed. Also, my back is killing me.

Boss is out for the next two weeks, which means our staff is effectively down by a third. There are four of us who work there, but one doesn't do any public stuff if she can help it (and who can blame her, it isn't part of her job description). So I'm working extra hours this week and next, which will be lovely for my bank account but not so lovely for my writing and Etsy time.

Tried a recipe from [personal profile] angelofthenorth tonight--the Sweet Potato and Pepper Soup was delicious!

Tomorrow I start the work week, and hopefully finish one of my two deadline projects.

Didn't write last night. I just didn't feel it, and I confess, with a comfortable lead, I let it slide. Today I wanted to get in a 10k day. So far I have...nothing.

I'm going to get something hot to drink, something healthy to eat, and swap my laundry from washer to dryer. Then I'm going to put on some kick-ass NaNoing music and get to work. NaNoWriMo sprints coming up at the top of the hour. :D

For now, I'm at 28,819 words. I want to be at 45,000 by the end of the week. I was going for a double-NaNo of 100k this year, though that's not looking 100% likely at this stage...but we'll see.

And now, off for some protein!

Got my [livejournal.com profile] bau_bigbang solo-written fic submitted tonight. It's done, the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] resolucidity gave it the thumbs-up as far as not sucking, and I even titled it, hopefully well. *G*

22976 / 20000 words. 115% done!

As for the co-written [livejournal.com profile] innerslytherin/[livejournal.com profile] severity_softly fic... If I did a graph for it, it would look like this:

Cut so it won't screw up people's displays )

Got it first-drafted and submitted as well, though we have three scenes that need moderate revision.

*cough*

Now I think it's time for us to turn our attention back to the original stuff--finishing our cowritten novel, and me finishing my revision of my solo-written novel.

Dear flist, I am sorry I am so far behind in LJ/IJ-land. I'm sorry to the people I usually chat with that I've been non-chatty or not around lately. I'm in my winter funk, I think. Or something. Anyway, I'm still alive, I had a "Grey Street" moment today (Hey, how did I come to this? I dream myself a thousand times around the world, but I can’t get out of this place), I'm holding my breath and praying hard about the Amazon.com Breakthrough Novel Contest, which I should know something about tonight or tomorrow, I believe. In the meantime, I'm revising a story that I said I would submit somewhere by 15 Jan...which is in less than five hours!

Okay, okay, so I'm going to send it in tomorrow, but I need to ask a question...I have, oddly enough, been unable to find a good answer.

How quickly would someone die if his car went into a cold river in late November in Minnesota? Would the cold of the water put his body into shock and kill him? Would he officially drown? I just want the policeman to say something realistic, that's all.

Also, anyone from Duluth or spent more than one day there (which is all I've spent)? What's a scenic beach that would have rocks for someone to pose against?

Okay, that's all from Steph-land tonight.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] tartanshell is my hero!!!!! She has directed me to [livejournal.com profile] little_details, where I found this post about cold water drownings. That's what I need!

I have turned in my Snupin Santa fic. Yes, just under the deadline, but it's really been mostly done for ten days, it was just the beta and finishing touches that took those last few days, and I kept getting distracted by NaNo. Which I haven't touched today. *headdesk* It's weird, I'm excited about my novel, but it's also difficult to write, for some reason. I've made some changes, including the fact that I realized I'm writing TWO novels here, not one, so I'm trying to sort out the plot into definite parts that will work for a duology rather than a stand-alone novel. *G*

Anyway.

Ooh, it occurs to me that maybe it's time for an updated Writing Projects post. *grin*
