I have 97 stories, adding up to 439,838 words. All together, they've received 170,762 hits.

Top Five by Hits:

1. I Never, Criminal Minds, Morgan/Reid, 2009, 2,627 words, 17,196 hits.
2. Good Reason to be Late, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 526 words, 6,262 hits.
3. An Excuse to Get Hurt, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 4,360 words, 5,321 hits. (A rare dark-ish fic from me.)
4. Life is Good, Criminal Minds, 2009, Reid/Rossi, 1,213 words, 4,827 hits.
5. Not So Alone, Criminal Minds, 2009, Hotch/Reid and Rossi/Prentiss, 2,263 words, 3,925 hits. Part one of a season-long series of episode coda fics.

The conclusion I draw from this: People will always love Morgan/Reid best. Also, I was a crazy multi-shipper for Criminal Minds.

Top Five by Kudos:

1. I Never, Criminal Minds, Morgan/Reid, 2009, 2,627 words, 1,424 kudos.
2. Good Reason to be Late, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 526 words, 280 kudos.
3. An Excuse to Get Hurt, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 4,360 words, 190 kudos.
4. Role Reversal, Criminal Minds, 2010, Hotch/Reid, 1,090 words, 185 kudos.
5. Life is Good, Criminal Minds, 2009, Reid/Rossi, 1,213 words, 4,827 hits.

The conclusion I draw from this: Spencer Reid really is the Criminal Minds fandom's little black dress. He looks good on everyone.

Top Five by Bookmarks:

1. I Never, Criminal Minds, Morgan/Reid, 2009, 2,627 words, 258 bookmarks.
2. Life is Good, Criminal Minds, 2009, Reid/Rossi, 1,213 words, 42 bookmarks.
3. Good Reason to be Late, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 526 words, 35 bookmarks.
4. Alpha Male Syndrome, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Rossi, 22,775 words, 23 bookmarks.
5. An Excuse to Get Hurt, Criminal Minds, 2009, Morgan/Reid, 4,360 words, 33 bookmarks.

The conclusion I draw from this: My Morgan/Rossi Big Bang fic made a surprising appearance here. I guess that means there are so few Morgan/Rossi fics that people like coming back to reread this one? :D

I just have to say, where the heck are all the Harry Potter fans on AO3? My most popular HP fic is
A Life of Obscurity, which was a 21,096-word Snupin Santa fic. It has 1,499 hits, 70 kudos, 5 comment threads, and 24 bookmarks.

I wonder if this is a result of the ways fandom has changed over the years. My HP fandom involvement was almost entirely on FictionAlley and LiveJournal, and of course, starting in 2007 LJ started going downhill, and I started porting fic over to AO3. I...honestly don't remember what happened with FictionAlley, though it seems like there was some drama that led to people moving to AO3?

My poor little The 100 fanfics get very little attention--probably because I'm such a fringe-shipper. Not many people looking for Bellamy/Jackson or Bellamy/Monty slash out there, I guess. :D
innerslytherin: (100 - Bellamy Blake)
Title: Lies and Loneliness
Fandom: The 100
Pairing: Bellamy/Jackson
Rating: G
WC: 200
Summary: Bellamy tells himself lies. Sometimes he even believes them.

Bellamy Blake has had a year to consider his sins.

A year without his sister. A year mourning his mother. A year telling himself he'd never wanted to be a guardsman anyway.

A year of taking out other people's trash.

He tells himself he'd been a lousy guardsman anyway. He tells himself he'd hated Inspector Grus so much he would have killed the man eventually. He tells himself everyone else grew up an only child, and he ought to just get used to it.

The only time he can't believe it is when Jackson touches him.

"If you don't stop this," the doctor whispers, "they're eventually going to decide brawling is a crime." His hands are steady as he stitches the cut on Bellamy's lower lip. His breathing is steady, too, as if he hadn't had that lip between his teeth two nights ago.

It's the look in Jackson's dark eyes that makes Bellamy close his eyes and tell himself to ignore the pain. He's stronger than the pain. He's stronger than the loneliness. He doesn't need anyone.

He keeps trying to tell himself he's only surviving for himself. The look in Jackson's eyes--that's how he knows he's lying.

Behold, more fanfic. And yes, it is eating into my original fiction-writing time, and yes, I need to get it under control. But for now, have some angsty Bell/Monty.

Title: The Thousand-Yard Stare
Pairing: hints of Bellamy/Monty
Rating: R for nonsexual nudity
Summary: Bellamy did what had to be done at Mount Weather. That doesn't stop him from experiencing post-traumatic stress. But he's not alone.
Notes: Title is from the Greek play Ajax: "[O]ur fierce hero sits shell-shocked in his tent, glazed over, gazing into oblivion. He has the thousand-yard stare." Betaed by [livejournal.com profile] slightlyjillian and [livejournal.com profile] severity_softly

I think it's pretty obvious I've been on a deep fandom hiatus this summer. It hasn't really been intentional. This summer seems to have been full of stuff, from Merlin getting sick and having to be put to sleep forward. Merlin, then vacation, then a migraine that wouldn't quit, then our long streak of days over 90 and without rain (we broke the 1936 record for Indiana), then... Of course, I know life is always that way. We have to decide what's most important to us and what's less important. And this summer, I've realized that I actually enjoy not spending every waking moment at the computer. I miss the friends I used to spend a huge amount of time with online, but I've also gained richness from spending time with family and kittens and face-to-face friends. And I've enjoyed spending time working on my original fiction, which is something that has both been enhanced by and been detracted from by my fandom involvements. Writing fanfic has made me a better writer. Working with beta-readers online has been better for me than four years in a Creative Writing program at university. But at the same time, I've written hundreds of thousands of words of fan fiction, and probably more of that, at this point, than my recent original fiction.

So this week I've really been thinking it over, and I have finally just come to a decision. As of right now, I'm pretty much done with my active participation in fandom.

This doesn't mean I want any of my friendships within fandoms to go away. I love all of you, and I want to keep you. But it does mean I'm not going to take on any new fanfic obligations. I'm going to be resigning from most of the stuff I've done. I'd still like to make sure the CM Exchange happens this year, and I should probably be talking to last year's people and trying to recruit someone who can continue in my place for next year's exchange. I will also be filling some obligations that I have been regrettably slow in filling (yes, charity auction winners, I'm looking at all of you). I'll still read and appreciate other people's fanfic on a smaller scale. But I don't plan at this time to create any more of my own.

The thing is, I'm turning 35 soon, and ten years ago I had a minor birthday meltdown because I hadn't sold any of my fiction. And now here it is a decade later and I STILL haven't sold any of my fiction. And you know what? It's been my own fault. I haven't tried hard enough. I haven't polished enough. I haven't submitted enough. And I'm tired of that. I'm tired of the feelings of self-doubt and self-criticism that go along with not having done what I always meant to do. I'm tired of not doing what I know in my heart I'm supposed to be doing.

So my fiction has to be made into a serious priority at this point. And I've been doing a much better job of that this summer, thanks in large part to having [livejournal.com profile] slightlyjillian as a writing/revising buddy. But I need to take ownership of my writing career (or lack thereof) and decide to make it what I want it to be.

This probably won't surprise anyone. I've been largely absent all summer, and while I've been gratified to hear from people reading older fic, I obviously haven't been contributing anything for months.

So anyway, I'm not saying goodbye to you all. After all, I left the Harry Potter fandom years ago and I still have lots of HP people around. But if anyone was just sticking around for the fanfic, I won't take defriendings personally.

I love you all.

Whee!

3409 / 20000 words. 17% done!

Thanks to storms that were rolling through when I first got home from work tonight, I got a lot more writing done on the [livejournal.com profile] bau_bigbang fic. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyrdwyn I have started using Q10 for writing -- it's a full-screen word processor that has a running word count at the bottom and a timer you can set and even makes typewriter noises. Through the Q10 website I discovered Portable Apps and have been using that word processor while at work (because if I'm at work, I want to write unobtrusively, not full-screen). So anyway, got a lot of work done on that, and now I've reached the hard part of the fic. Yippee.

It's been a nice evening, though. I got home, ate dinner, then took the netbook and a glass of wine to bed with me. I expect I'll be going to sleep in the next hour and a half or so. And my head is feeling much better.

Tonight's wine: Grape Inspirations Savvy Green (apple wine)

1300 / 20000 words. 7% done!

Finally got started yesterday on my [livejournal.com profile] bau_bigbang fic. I've had a partial outline for about a week, but Morgan and Rossi are a recalcitrant couple to get together, so it took me a while to figure out how I was going to do it.

Got offline early last night and STILL didn't sleep well. Woke up with that same headache I've had for days. I think it's a combination of lack of sleep and the weather, but ugh. It's moved down into my neck, and that's just the worst.

Okay, let's see:

Pairings I like: Reid/Rossi, Reid/Morgan, Hotch/Reid, Rossi/Prentiss, Rossi/Garcia, Hotch/Rossi, Morgan/Rossi

Characters I will write: Anyone but Gideon-centric

I will absolutely NOT write: Gideon shipping, hard kinks, JJ/Reid or Morgan/Garcia

That said, I will take ficlet requests until I feel like not taking any more. *G* Leave a character/pairing and a prompt or two.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] red_day_dawning, First line of last 25 fics you wrote and try to find a pattern. And since the last, like, ten posts have been from the same co-written fic, I'm only counting my first line of that fic. Also some of these aren't posted yet, because frankly I'm just lazy enough to look in Google Docs instead of poking backwards twenty-five whole fics.

Last twenty-five fics...will there be a pattern? )

Um...Seriously, I have no idea what pattern might be emerging here. If there is one. I do try to begin in media res as often as possible, though...

I just found a Bones/Criminal Minds crossover fic wherein the pairing was Zack Addy/Spencer Reid. Prior to the season finale of Bones, that would've been lovely. Now it just makes me a little queasy, considering the bizarre fate of poor Zack.

*sigh*

It's possible I'm just this side of snookered tonight. The line between "just enough" and "a wee bit much" regarding Crown Royal in the Coke is sometimes invisible until you cross it. But this is expensive whiskey, and I'm not wasting any of it.

That reminds me. A poll. I haven't done one of those in ages. And my best friend and I have been arguing about something, but since she has no online friendships and no comprehension of why mine are so important to me, I don't consider her opinion valid on this subject.

[Poll #1224720]

Ooh, I don't think I've used my "drunk" mood since I got my Spencer Reid mood theme...

There's a fun post at Lupin_Snape IJ where I commented with this. *grin* With help from [livejournal.com profile] _lore.

1. It's Snupin. Doesn't matter if I'm trying to write gen, Snupin will still creep in.

2. Remus will have facial hair. For some reason that's become a big thing with me lately.

3. It's over 20k. LOL I can't seem to write anything short anymore.

4. A shower is involved in some fashion. I have an abiding love for showers, whether it's in a sex scene or just a hurt/comfort scene.

5. Remus wears reading glasses. There's something very sexy about a man in glasses, and if he's looking at Severus over the tops of those glasses...rowr.

6. One of them has a long-standing desire for the other. Might be Severus, might be Remus, might be both of them, actually, but if I'm writing fics set during the canon years, I like fics where their 25-year history comes into play.

7. Happy ending.

8. Remus isn't quite as mild-mannered as he seems. He uses his politeness as a mask to keep people at a distance. But he's also a competent Defence professor and a werewolf, and he has a temper, he just suppresses it.

9. Remus travelled during the years between 1981 and 1993, usually over much of the world, gaining his Defence Against the Dark Arts knowledge through first-hand experience.

10. Severus had a hand in the Wolfsbane Potion somehow, because of his fascination with/desire for/hatred of Lupin.
